When choosing which animal's flesh to dine on, do you ever consider their level of intelligence?

When choosing which animal's flesh to dine on, do you ever consider their level of intelligence?

Does it make a difference to you, the flesh-eater, if it is the flesh of a highly intelligent being, or a less intelligent being?

Does the idea, that the animal you are eating, even has intelligence and the capacity to love, ever enter the equation (in your mind?)

What about in your heart?

Considering there are plant-based options for a tremendous amount of "products", it's hard to imagine how one justifies themselves, as they wrap their lips around the flesh of a loving, intelligent, family-oriented, sentient being, who would love to be your best friend, not your meal.

Pigs are smarter than some 3 years olds. Why does that matter? I think eating "less intelligent people" or "less intelligent animals" would be equally wrong.

I mean, we love people who are intellectually challenged, we fight for their rights to be honored. We urge others to love children when they have "special needs" or have physical challenges. Some of us understand that ALL humans deserve love, respect, safety, and the right to life.

Why do we not see that ALL animals deserve our consideration and love too, not a knife in the throat. 

Melanie Joy has spent decades studying this question, Why do we love some animals and eat or wear others? And it isn't because we are inherently cruel. It's because we have been indoctrinated in these "industry lies" all our lives.

We are blinded by something that keeps us from seeing and feeling the truth, that animals deserve love and respect and their LIVES. Please, open your heart today. I hope your heart breaks enough to let the love in.

“Only time and grace can put the essence of these stories in your heart. Here we recite and learn them and put them on our hearts hoping that some day when our heart breaks they will fall in.” - Jack Kornfield
